THE CORE OF LIFE Pt 2

The Law of Christ

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

THE MARK OF A GENUINE CHRISTIAN IS LOVE TOWARDS OTHERS.

WE’VE GOT TO MAKE SURE THAT LOVE IS THE CORE OF OUR LIFE!

A BIG INDICATOR THAT WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK IS JOY!

John 15:12 This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do what I command you.

2 BASIC WAYS PEOPLE LIVE IN THE EARTH

THE LAW OF THE FLESH OR THE LAW OF CHRIST

THE LAW OF THE FLESH IS SELFISHNESS, SELF SATISFACTION, SELF PRESERVATION

IF YOU LIVE BY THE LAW OF THE FLESH YOU LIVE TO SATISFY YOURSELF

Luke 17:33 Whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.

THE KEY TO FINDING AND KEEPING TRUE LIFE IS LAYING IT DOWN.

Gal 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

THE LAW OF CHRIST IS THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO SUFFER IF IT BENEFITS SOMEBODY ELSE.

IF YOUR SUFFERING IS NOT BENEFITTING SOMEONE ELSE IT IS NOT TRUE CHRISTIAN SUFFERING.

John 17:17 “I sanctify myself so that others might be sanctified”

THE LAW OF THE FLESH IS ME LIVING FOR ME.

THE LAW OF CHRIST IS LIVING FOR HIM AND OTHERS AND BEING WILLING TO SUFFER IF IT HELPS THEM.

Col 1:23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.

24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share on behalf of His body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions.

PAUL SAID IT OVER AND OVER… I REJOICE IN MY SUFFERINGS…

Phil 2:17 But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all.

Foundations

1 Tim 1:3 As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines,

WHEN PAUL WAS IN EPHESUS

Acts 20:28 Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29 I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30 and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

THE GREEK FOR STRANGE (HETERODIDASKALEO) –  (OF A DIFFERENT KIND) – TO PACKAGE IT IN A VERY SLICK WAY – MASTERFULLY

4 nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith.

1 Tim 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,

LATER TIMES… (2 WORDS FOR LATER – ESCATAS – ESCATOLOGY,

HUSTEROS – THE VERY END.

THE LAST OF THE LAST DAYS.

THEY WILL FALL AWAY (DEPART) aphistemi  FROM THE FAITH

GREEK WORD (DECEITFUL) “PLANOS” – DESCRIBING A VERY SLOW METHODICAL DEPARTURE.

A SLOW PROCESS – ONE STEP AT A TIME.

Paying attention to deceitful (seducing) spirits and doctrines  (didaskalia) OF DEMONS

THEY DEPART FROM “THE FAITH”.  (THE BODY OF TEACHING THAT WE CALL THE DOCTRINE OF THE CHURCH)

HOW DO WE RESPOND TO A CULTURE THAT IS CHANGING?  TO PEOPLE WHO NO LONGER KNOW THE BIBLE?

Vs 6 In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.

THE GREEK USED HERE IS THE WORD “HUPOTITHEMI” – “HUPO” MEANING UNDER OR UNDERNEATH,

“TITHEMI” IS A FOUNDATIONAL WORD MEANING TO LAY, PLACE OR POSITION A FOUNDATION.

IF YOU CRAWL UNDER THE BRETHREN AND PUT A FOUNDATION UNDERNEATH THEM YOU WILL BE A GOOD MINISTER OF JESUS CHRIST.

A CHURCH IS NOT ABOUT BUILDING A REPUTATION BUT TO BUILD A PEOPLE THAT HAVE A FOUNDATION

THIS WORD “HUPOTITHEMI” IS CONTINIOUS, THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU DO ONCE BUT THE REST OF YOUR MINISTRY..

THE WORD SERVANT (MINISTER) GIVES US A PICTURE.

THERE ARE 3 GREEK WORDS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT FOR MINISTER

1.DOULOS – IT CAN BE TRANSLATED – MINISTER, SERVANT, SLAVE

THIS PERSON IS TOTALLY SWALLOWED UP IN THE WILL OF SOMEONE ELSE.

THEY HAVE SURRENDERED TOTAL CONTROL OF THEIR LIFE

  1. HUPERETES – 1 Cor 4:1

THE WORD FOR AN UNDER-ROWER OF A SHIP

THEY WERE CHAINED TO THEIR POSITIONS.

  1. 3. WORD FOR MINISTER USED HERE IN 1 Tim 4:1 IS “DIAKONOS”

WHICH MEANS “ON BEHALF OF THE COMMUNITY”

Acts 6 WE SEE IT AS THE WORD “DEACON”

YOUR LIFE IS ONE THAT IS GIVEN ON BEHALF OF THE COMMUNITY.

A SERVICE POSITION

YOU HAVE BECOME NOT JUST ONE WHO HAS GIFTS BUT A GIFT GIVEN TO THE CHURCH.

constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.

THE CORE OF LIFE

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

OUR WHOLE LIFE IS TO BE MANIFESTING THE LOVE OF GOD

John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

THE MARK OF A GENUINE CHRISTIAN IS LOVE TOWARDS OTHERS.

LOVE IS A KEY TO REAPING OUR HARVESTS

OUR FAITH IS ONLY ABLE TO OPERATE ACCORDING TO OUR LOVE.  (Gal 5:6)

MAKE SURE THAT LOVE IS THE CORE OF OUR LIFE!

A BIG INDICATOR THAT WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK IS JOY!

John 15:9 Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

OUR LOVE FOR GOD IS REVEALED IN OUR DIRECT OBEDIENCE TO HIS WORD AND WHAT HE TELLS US BY HIS SPIRIT

John 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.

HIS LOVE IS WHAT PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR.

THE REWARD FOR LOVING HIM AND OBEYING HIM IS HE WILL MANIFEST HIMSELF TO US.

15:11 These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.

WHEN YOU HAVE HAD THE PRIVELEDGE OF BEING AN INSTRUMENT OF THE LORD IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS IT IS THE GREATEST JOY.

John 15:12 This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do what I command you.

Greater Things

2 Samuel 22:33 God is my strong fortress; And He sets the blameless in His way. 34 “He makes my feet like hinds’ feet, And sets me on my high places35 “He trains my hands for battle, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 36 “You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your help makes me great.

John 10:29 “My Father is greater than all”

2 Samuel 5:10 David became greater and greater, for the Lord God of hosts was with him.

Esther 9:4 “Mordecai waxed greater and greater”

Job 8:7 Though your beginning was insignificant, Yet your end will increase greatly.

Mess – Even though you’re not much right now, you’ll end up better than ever.

1 John 4:4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

Haggai 2:9 The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ declares the Lord of hosts.”

John 14:12 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.

AREAS WE CAN PUT OUR EXPECTATION ON FOR GREATER

GREATER WISDOM – Prov 4:7

GREATER POWER – Eph 3:16

GREATER BLESSING; WEALTH – Prov 10:22

GREATER PEACE – Col 3:15Rom 8:6

GREATER LOVE – 1 Cor 13:13

GREATER JOY – John 15:11

GREATER FAITH – Rom 1:17

OUR FAITH IS GOING TO BE REQUIRED FOR “GREATER THINGS”

TO HAVE A FIRM FAITH IS TO ACCEPT SOMETHING AS TRUE OR GENUINE OR REAL; AN UNSHAKEABLE CONVICTION OF ITS GOODNESS, EFFICACY AND ABILITY

FOR US TO STEP IN TO GREATER THINGS IN 2019…

WE NEED TO POSSESS A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF THE POWER OF GOD’S WORD.

2 Tim 3:15 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

INSPIRED MEANS GOD BREATHED

OUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE WORD DETERMINES THE PLACE THAT GOD HOLDS IN OUR DAILY LIFE.

Joshua 1:8 (LIVE IN IT

John 15:7 “If my words abide in you, ask and it shall be done”

John 8:31 “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Ps 138:2 You have magnified Your word above all Your name!

THE WORD REVEALS THE FATHERS ATTITUDE TOWARDS ALL THE ISSUES OF MY LIFE.

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom

THE PURPOSE FOR THE WORD IS TO CORRECT OUR THINKING.

Isaiah 55:8-11

YOU CANNOT MAKE A NOW DECISION WITH PAST SEASON MENTALITY

1 Pet 1:6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,

so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.

Deut 28:45-48 So all these curses shall come on you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you would not obey the Lord your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. They shall become a sign and a wonder on you and your descendants forever.

Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things; therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in the lack of all things
