“Did you receive the Holy Spirit?”

John 7:37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.’” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Acts 19:1And it came about that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus, and found some disciples, 2 and he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 And when they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. (they started drinking)

7 And there were in all about twelve men.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

you can be born of the spirit but not baptized in the spirit.

the disciples were born of the spirit in John 20 before the day of penticost but they were not baptized in the holy spirit.

there are two things to receive. did you get them both?

Acts 19:3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?”

4 And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”

5 when they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

THE SPIRIT IN HIS FULNESS HAD NOT COME UPON THEM.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them

there is a difference between being born of the spirit and being baptised in the spirit

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.

god wants your tongue to be an instrument of praise

1Cor 14:17 He who speaks in a tongue gives thanks well

1 cor 14 paul said, when you pray in tongues your spirit is doing the praying and your mind is unfruitful.

isaiah 28:11 this is the rest, the refreshing…

1Cor. 14:2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God;

1Cor. 14:18 I thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all;

5 Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues but even more that you would prophesy
