Wisdom & Expansion of Heart Pt. 5

A Greater Vision 2

MSG 2 Cor 6:11 Dear, dear Corinthians, I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. 12 We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you.  Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way. I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively!

  1. Q. WHAT IS IT THAT GOD IS WANTING TO DO THROUGH YOU?

1 Chr 17:1 And it came about, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I am dwelling in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under curtains.” 2 Then Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”

3 It came about the same night that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, 4 “Go and tell David My servant, ‘Thus says the Lord, “You shall not build a house for Me to dwell in;

5 for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from one dwelling place to another. 6 In all places where I have walked with all Israel, have I spoken a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, saying, ‘Why have you not built for Me a house of cedar?’”’

7 Now, therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel.

8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a name like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.

9 I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and not be moved again; and the wicked will not waste them anymore as formerly, 10 even from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I tell you that the Lord will build a house for you.

10 Moreover, I tell you that the Lord will build a house for you.

11 When your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up one of your descendants after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He shall build for Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.

13 I will be his father and he shall be My son; and I will not take My lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him who was before you. 14 But I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.” 15 According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

16 Then David the king went in and sat before the Lord and said, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?

WHAT KIND OF PERSON RISES TO GREATNESS IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD?

17 This was a small thing in Your eyes, O God; but You have spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have regarded me according to the standard of a man of high degree, O Lord God.

18 What more can David still say to You concerning the honor bestowed on Your servant? For You know Your servant.

19 O Lord, for Your servant’s sake, and according to Your own heart, You have wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things.  20 O Lord, there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

21 And what one nation in the earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make You a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed out of Egypt?

22 For Your people Israel You made Your own people forever, and You, O Lord, became their God.

23 “Now, O Lord, let the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house be established forever, and do as You have spoken.

24 Let Your name be established and magnified forever, saying, ‘The Lord of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel; and the house of David Your servant is established before You.’

EVERY GREAT THING THE LORD DOES FOR YOU IS TO GLORIFY HIM.

25 For You, O my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build for him a house; therefore Your servant has found courage to pray before You.

NKJ Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray before You

26 Now, O Lord, You are God, and have promised this good thing to Your servant. 27 And now it has pleased You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You; for You, O Lord, have blessed, and it is blessed forever.”

The Prayer of Commitment

United Prayer

They prayed in ‘one accord’

Acts 4:23 And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.

Acts 4:24 So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them,…

In united prayer, everyone is praying the same thing.

Acts 16:25 But about midnight, as Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the [other] prisoners were listening to them, AMP

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. NKJV

Prayer of agreement

The prayer of agreement is:  ‘If two shall agree”

Matt. 18:18 Truly I tell you, whatever you forbid and declare to be improper and unlawful on earth must be awhat is already forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit and declare proper and lawful on earth must be bwhat is already permitted in heaven.

Matt. 18:19 Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and aeverything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven.

Matt. 18:20 For wherever two or three are gathered (drawn together as My followers) in (into) My name, there I AM in the midst of them.†  AMP

Deut. 32:30 How could one have chased a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had delivered them up?  AMP

Prayer power can be multiplied

Prayer of Commitment

Matt. 11:28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matt. 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Matt. 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Casting your care upon the Lord

1 Pet. 5:7  Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, bonce and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.  AMP

Committing-Your responsibilities

The futility of worry

Matt. 6:25 Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing?

Matt. 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they?

Matt. 6:27 And who of you by worrying and being anxious can add one unit of measure (cubit) to his stature or to the aspan of his life?  AMP

Worry nullifies prayer!

Phil. 4:6 Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  RSV

Luke 21:34 But take heed to yourselves and be on your guard, lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed (weighed down) with the giddiness and headache and nausea of self-indulgence, drunkenness, and worldly worries and cares pertaining to [the business of] this life, and [lest] that day come upon you suddenly like a trap or a noose;  AMP

Wisdom & Expansion of Heart 3

A Tender Heart

Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding,

YLT 2 Cor 6:11 Our mouth hath been open unto you, O Corinthians, our heart hath been enlarged! 12 ye are not straitened in us, and ye are straitened in your [own] bowels, 13 and [as] a recompense of the same kind, (as to children I say [it],) be ye enlarged–also ye!

THE WORD STRAITENED MEANS: TO HEM IN, TO RESTRICT, CONFINE

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF A RESTRICTED HEART:

FEARFULLNESS, SELFISHNESS AND HARDNESS

Eph 4:17 So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;

Psalm 18:35 You have also given me the shield of Your salvation,

And Your right hand upholds me; And Your gentleness makes me great. 36 You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped.

NAS Matt 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart

Eph 2:29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. 30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

THE DEVIL KNOWS; IF HE CAN GET YOU HURT, GET YOU BITTER, UPSET, MAD AND UNFORGIVING, HE WON’T HAVE TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT YOU AS A THREAT TO HIS KINGDOM.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO ENLARGE?  HOW ARE WE GOING TO EXPAND?

WE HAVE TO KNOW WHAT TO RESIST AND WHAT TO YIELD TO.

BEING TENDER HEARTED MEANS BEING SENSITIVE TO HOW THINGS AFFECT OTHER PEOPLE.

Vs 30 “Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit”…

31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

TENDER HEARTED MEANS WE ARE LETTING THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST LIVE BIG INSIDE OF US.

Ex. ONE OF THE FIRST EXAMPLES OF HARD HEARTEDNESS IS WHEN CAIN KILLED HIS BROTHER.

Ex. JESUS AND LAZURUS…

TENDER HEARTED IS ABOUT BEING TOUCHED WITH THE FEELINGS OF PEOPLE’S INFIRMITIES…  BEING SOFT…

THE DEVIL IS NOT JUST TRYING TO MAKE US MISERABLE.  HE’S TRYING TO PREVENT US FROM BEING USABLE.

32 Be kind to one another, (IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT) tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Ministering to the Lord

Acts 13:1  Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Mana-en a member of the court of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

Acts 13:2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,  “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Acts 13:3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

When we minister to the Lord, three things happen:

  1. A good time to hear the voice of God. Thy way O Lord is in thy sanctuary…

  2. A good time to receive a miracle from God:

  3. There is a close relationship between ministering to the Lord and receiving deliverance from tests and trials.

1 Sam. 16:15 And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

1 Sam. 16:16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

1 Sam. 16:17 And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.  Kjv

1 Sam. 16:23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

Acts 16:22 The crowd joined in attacking them; and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods.

Acts 16:23 And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely.

Acts 16:24 Having received this charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

Acts 16:25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them,

Acts 16:26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and every one’s fetters were unfastened.  RSV

2 Chr. 20:15 And he said,  “Hearken, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you,  ‘Fear not, and be not dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours but Gods.

2 Chr. 20:16 Tomorrow go down against them; behold, they will come up by the ascent of Ziz; you will find them at the end of the valley, east of the wilderness of Jeruel.

2 Chr. 20:17 You will not need to fight in this battle; take your position, stand still, and see the victory of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Fear not, and be not dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you.”

2 Chr. 20:18 ¶ Then Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the LORD, worshiping the LORD.

2 Chr. 20:19 And the Levites, of the Kohathites and the Korahites, stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.

2 Chr. 20:20  And they rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said,  “Hear me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be established; believe his prophets, and you will succeed.”

2 Chr. 20:21 And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the LORD and praise him in holy array, as they went before the army, and say,  “Give thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love endures for ever.”

2 Chr. 20:22 And when they began to sing and praise, the LORD set an ambush against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed.  RSV

Characteristic of the early Church

Acts 2:46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,

Acts 2:47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.  RSV

Luke 24:50 Then He conducted them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up His hands, He invoked a blessing on them.

Luke 24:51 And it occurred that while He was blessing them, He parted from them and was taken up into heaven.

Luke 24:52 And they, worshiping Him, went back to Jerusalem with great joy;

Luke 24:53 And they were continually in the temple celebrating with praises and blessing and extolling God. Amen (so be it).  AMP

Wisdom & Expansion of Heart 2

Gentleness of Heart

Acts 16:13 And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to a riverside, where we were supposing that there would be a place of prayer; and we sat down and began speaking to the women who had assembled. 14 A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul.

STRAITENED MEANS: TO HEM IN, TO RESTRICT, CONFINE, “CHOKED”

Doddridge Trans 19 “I wish you more enlarged apprehension of it (the love of Christ), that so you may be filled with all the fullness of God, that your EXPANDED HEARTS, being DILATED more and more, may be rendered CAPABLE OF ADMITTING LARGER DEGREES THAN EVER OF DIVINE LOVE, and more ample indwellings of divine consolation, till at length ye arrive at that happy state in which ye shall attain to a full perfection in the knowledge and ENJOYENT OF GOD…

WNT 2 Cor 6:11 O Corinthians, our lips are unsealed to you: our heart is expanded. 12 There is no narrowness in our love to you: the narrowness is in your own feelings (INSIDES). 13 And in just requital–I speak as to my children–let your hearts expand also.

MAIN CHARACHTERISTICS OF A RESTRICTED HEART:

FEARFULLNESS, SELFISHNES AND HARDNESS

MSG 2 Cor 6:11 Dear, dear Corinthians, I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. 12 We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you.

2 OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU CAN LEARN IS WHAT TO RESIST AND WHAT TO YIELD TO.

WHAT DO WE YIELD TO THAT ALLOWS US TO EXPAND AND ENLARGE?

Psalm 18:35 You have also given me the shield of Your salvation,

And Your right hand upholds me; And Your gentleness makes me great.

36 You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped.

A WORD CONNECTED TO THAT ENLARGEMENT; GENTLENESS

JESUS SAID, “Come and learn of me.  For I am meek and lowly of heart”

NAS Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart

Kinds of Prayer

-Pastor Donna Christian-

Eph. 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.  NIV

  1. The prayer of petition

Matt. 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. KJV

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. KJV

Psa. 37:4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.

Psa. 37:5 Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.  AMP

  1. The prayer of consecration

Galatians 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Luke 22:42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”  NKJV

John 5:30 I am able to do nothing from Myself [independently, of My own accord—but only as I am taught by God and as I get His orders]. Even as I hear, I judge [I decide as I am bidden to decide. As the voice comes to Me, so I give a decision], and My judgment is right (just, righteous), because I do not seek or consult My own will [I have no desire to do what is pleasing to Myself, My own aim, My own purpose] but only the will and pleasure of the Father Who sent Me.  AMP

John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will and purpose but to do the will and purpose of Him Who sent Me.  AMP

Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me; neither do I esteem my life dear to myself, if only I may finish my course with joy and the ministry which I have obtained from [which was entrusted to me by] the Lord Jesus, faithfully to attest to the good news (Gospel) of God’s grace (His unmerited favor, spiritual blessing, and mercy).  AMP

Matt. 10:38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

Matt. 10:39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. NKJV

Phil. 2:13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.  NKJV

Phil. 2:13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him.  NLT

Wisdom & Expansion of the Heart

AMP Eph 5:15 Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),

NKJV 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understandwhat the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

THE HOLY SPIRIT WORKS WITHIN OUR HEART (SPIRIT)

YLT 2 Cor 6:11 Our mouth hath been open unto you, O Corinthians, our heart hath been enlarged! 12 ye are not straitened in us, and ye are straitened in your [own] bowels, 13 and [as] a recompense of the same kind, (as to children I say [it],) be ye enlarged–also ye!

WNT 11 O Corinthians, our lips are unsealed to you: our heart is expanded. 12 There is no narrowness in our love to you: the narrowness is in your own feelings. 13 And in just requital–I speak as to my children–let your hearts expand also.

STRAITENED OR NARROWNESS MEANS: TO HEM IN, TO RESTRICT

MSG 2 Cor 6:11 Dear, dear Corinthians, I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way. I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively!

FOR US TO INCREASE AND EXPAND WE MUST INCREASE AND EXPAND IN HEART FIRST.

THE CHALLENGE IS NEVER WHAT GOD CAN DO.  IT’S WHAT WE CAN BELIEVE

ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS THAT RESTRICTS OUR HEART, KEEPS US FROM RECEIVING IS A HARD HEART.

Eph 3:16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

GOD CREATED US WITH THE CAPACITY TO BE FULL OF HIMSELF.

SOLOMON PRAYED A PRAYER LIKE THIS.

1 Kings 4:29 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.

NIV God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.

MSG God gave Solomon wisdom—the deepest of understanding and the largest of hearts.

Prov 4:23 Guard your heart for out of it flow the issues of life

WHAT WE CAN RECEIVE IS AFFECTED BY HOW RESTRICTED OR NARROW OUR HEART IS.

A SMALL RESTRICTED HEART WILL HAVE YOU LIVING IN A LITTLE ME WORLD.

Mark 8:15-22 Jesus rebuked the disciples for hardness of heart.

SOMETIMES WHAT WE CALL GROWING UP IS GETTING HARD HEARTED.

Matt 18:3 “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

THIS IS DIRECTLY TIED TO OUR ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND.

Mark 8:17 Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a hardened heart? 18 Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear?
