Being Ready

-Pastor John Breshers-

Sanctification

Revelation 19:7

Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted (Permitted) her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

Righteousness is a two fold reality the same as Sanctification.

There is a Position we are given in Righteousness as born again believers and then Relationally there is a Righteousness that every believer must develop into becoming spiritually mature.

Sanctification is very similar.  Positionally every born-again believer has been sanctified by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ.

Both God and the Believer have specific responsibilities in both area’s.

GOD’S – AMP Heb 10:10  And in accordance with this will [of God] we [who believe in the message of salvation] have been sanctified [that is, set apart as holy for God and His purposes] through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) once for all.

BELIEVERS – AMP Php 2:12  So then, my dear ones, just as you have always obeyed [my instructions with enthusiasm], not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation [that is, cultivate it, bring it to full effect, actively pursue spiritual maturity] with awe-inspired fear and trembling [using serious caution and critical self-evaluation to avoid anything that might offend God or discredit the name of Christ]. 13  For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.:14  Do everything without murmuring or questioning [the providence of God], :15  so that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish in the midst of a [morally] crooked and [spiritually] perverted generation, among whom you are seen as bright lights [beacons shining out clearly] in the world [of darkness],

Sanctification is simply something that is set apart for God’s special use and purpose.

Pastor spoken to us last week about how to live a victorious life as a believer.  It had to do with taking time to be with the Lord.  Behavior of the believer that gives place to spending Time with God, Time in the Word and Prayer.  These are the tools through which the Spirit of God speaks to us, instructs us, leads us, ministers to us…  Washes us from the stains of the World.

AMP – Rev 19:8  She  (Bride of Christ) has been permitted to dress in fine linen, dazzling white and clean–for the fine linen signifies the righteous acts of the saints [the ethical conduct, personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character of believers].

The Bride of Christ is given a choice to adorn herself with fine linen, dazzling white clothing but every day she must make time for the sanctification process to take place.

It has to do with abiding in the vine.

The Holy Spirit does not force the believer into these times of fellowship with him which brings about a work of outward sanctification.

You and I are members that make up the Bride of Christ. It’s our responsibility individually  to Adorn ourselves with fine linen. Our Righteousness comes OUT of His Righteousness. Our Sanctification comes out of His Sanctification.

However Believers must have an outward work taking place in their lives developing both Righteousness and Sanctification.

AMP – Rev 19:8  She  (Bride of Christ) has been permitted to dress in fine linen, dazzling white and clean–for the fine linen signifies the righteous acts of the saints [the ethical conduct, personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character of believers].

  1.  Ethical conduct – moral principles that govern a person’s behavior or the conducting of an activity.

  2. Personal Integrity – the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.

  3. Moral Courage – the ability to do something that frightens one based on a principal of what is right and wrong and the goodness or badness of human character

  4. Godly Character – the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual….of believers

  • Reading, studying, and being taught the bible – Helps us to better understand who God is, His Love for us & what he has done for us, and how he calls us to live.

  • Praying expresses our faith in the power of God to do what only he can do.

  • Fellowshipping with other believers – helps us to use our faith by loving and bearing with one another.

  • Giving to God – helps us not to put our  trust in the things of this world and shows that we value the work of God.

  • Sharing the gospel with others sharpens us and we experience the joy of doing God’s work .

(Lev 20:7–8). “Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy; for I am the LORD your God. Keep my statutes, and do them; I am the LORD who sanctifies you”

As this verse helps us see, the word sanctification is closely related to holiness.

Sanctification for the Believer, is a progressive work of the God’s Spirit to make a believer more like Jesus Christ.

I Thessalonians 4:3“ A Life Pleasing to God”  “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality”

Here we find a laundry list of Behavorial expectations for the believer to live out.

(Rom 6:19) He commands Christians to “present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification” .

Because believers have been set free from their slavery to sin, “the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life” (Rom 6:22).

God is the one who does the work of making us more like Christ, and we participate in that work by a life of continually turning away from sin and demonstrating our faith in Christ by obeying God’s commands.

Keep in Step with the Spirit

Gal 5:16  But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts]. The Holy Spirit plays a key role in this process: as we walk in the power of the Spirit we “will not gratify the desires of the flesh”

One being the ten Virgins – 5 were wise and 5 were foolish.

Five had prepared and purchased additional oil for their lamps and five did not.  I believe this is a result of those who were not sensitive to the leading of the Lord in their preparations.  They are classified as being foolish vs being Wise.

Revelation 19:8

And it was given to her that she should array herself in fine linen bright and pure, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. The bride arrays herself in her garments of beauty, that she may go forth to meet the Bridegroom, may enter in with Him to the marriage ceremony, and may be united to Him for ever in the marriage bond. Her robes are of dazzling whiteness, free from every stain; nor are they an outward show. Her righteousness is more than imputed, and her whole being is penetrated by it. She is in Christ; she is one with Him; His righteousness takes possession of her in such a manner that it becomes her own; it is a part of herself and of her life.

St. John had no fear of saying that the redeemed shall be presented before God in ‘righteous acts’ of their own. He could not think of them except as at once justified and sanctified in Jesus.

Adam Clark Commentary – Revelation 19:8

Arrayed in fine linen – A prediction that the Church should become more pure in her doctrines, more pious in her experience, and more righteous in her conduct, than she had ever been from her formation.

The fine linen here spoken of is not the righteousness of Christ imputed to believers, for it is here called the righteousness of the saints – that which the grace and Spirit of Christ has wrought in them.

Believers have their own Righteousness.  “Two Kinds of Righteousness”  Don’t leave up to God what He has left up to us!!

God’s Spirit in us has but one cleaning agent!!! the Word Of God to work Sanctification in the life of the believers.
