Overcoming discouragement Pt 2

Reaching

COURAGE; THE MENTAL OR MORAL STRENGTH TO VENTURE; THE ABILITY TO PERSEVERE IN DANGER, FEAR OR DIFFICULTY.

IT IS LEARNED BEHAVIOR, IT IS DEVELOPED WHEN ONE BEGINS TO MOVE BEYOND THEIR FEARS TO EMBRACE THEIR DESTINY.

MARK TWAIN; COURAGE IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF FEAR.  IT IS RESISTANCE TO FEAR.  MASTERY OF FEAR.

CHANGING YOUR FOCUS CAN CHANGE YOUR FEELINGS.

DISCOURAGEMENT CAN CREATE A SEASON OF INGRATITUDE IN LIFE

WHEN YOU ARE DISCOURAGED YOU DON’T MIND YOUR ENEMY WINNING.

SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE WHO ENTERED SEASONS OF GREAT DISPARE.

IN Psalm 73 WE SAW THE FEELINGS OF ASAPH DURING A TIME OF DISCOURAGEMENT.

73:17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.

77:1 My voice rises to God, and I will cry aloud; My voice rises to God, and He will hear me. 2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord

ONE OF THE KEYS TO OVERCOMING DISCOURAGEMENT IS LEARNING TO REACH.

DESPERATION CAN LEAD TO DESTINY.

DISCOURAGEMENT LAUNCHES WITHIN YOU A PASSION FOR CHANGE

In the night my hand was stretched out without weariness; My soul refused to be comforted. 3 When I remember God, then I am disturbed; When I sigh, then my spirit grows faint. 4 You have held my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. 5 I have considered the days of old, The years of long ago. 6 I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart, And my spirit ponders: 7 Will the Lord reject forever? And will He never be favorable again? 8 Has His lovingkindness ceased forever? Has His promise come to an end forever? 9 Has God forgotten to be gracious, Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion? 10 Then I said, “It is my grief,

11 I will remember the works of the Lord: Surely I will remember thy wonders of old. 12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

13 Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?

THERE ARE THINGS WE NEED TO DO WHEN WE GET DISCOURAGED

  1. RE-EXAMINE THE REASONS FOR YOUR BELIEFS.

DURING DISCOURAGEMENT IT IS IMPORTANT TO ASSESS WHAT YOU BELIEVE

YOUR BELIEF SYSTEM HAS TO CHANGE BEFORE YOU CAN CHANGE WHAT’S HAPPENING IN YOUR LIFE.

WHEN YOU GO THROUGH SEASONS OF DISCOURAGEMENT REASSESS EVERYTHING.

  • WHY DO I BELIEVE THE BIBLE?

  • WHAT BROUGHT ME TO THIS PLACE OF PERSUASION?

WHEN YOU CHOOSE TO BELIEVE IT PRODUCES A CONFIDENCE.

WHEN YOU ARE DISCOURAGED, RE-EXAMIN WHAT YOU BELIEVE.

  • WHY DID YOU EVER CHOOSE TO BELIEVE GOD IN THE FIRST PLACE?

  • WHAT WERE YOUR OTHER OPTIONS?

YOUR BELIEF IN GOD AND IN HIS WORD PRODUCES A PURPOSE ON THE INSIDE OF YOU.

BELIEVERS BACKSLIDE AND GET AWAY FROM GOD DURING TIMES OF DISCOURAGEMENT.

EXAMINE YOURSELF WHEN YOU ARE IN A SEASON OF DISCOURAGEMENT

2 Cor 13:5 Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?

Ex’s OF BIBLE CHARACTERS WHO STRUGGLED –

ELIJAH, ABRAHAM BECAME DISCOURAGED WAITING FOR GOD’S PROMISE TO BE FULFILLED.

JESUS BECAME DISCOURAGED… “WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”

YOU CAN COME OUT OF DISCOURAGEMENT IF YOU SEARCH

DISCOURAGEMENT IS A SIGNAL THAT CHANGE IS NECESSARY!  CHANGE CAN HAPPEN.

  1. RE-EXAMINE THE REASONS FOR YOUR BELIEFS
